The Wonderful Traveling Theater of the Academia de Palhaços was a project that between 2015 and 2018 took five theater shows in the trunk of its van to public spaces in the city of São Paulo. On streets, parks, squares, courts or patios, spectators watched the popular repertoire of this traveling theater. The project visited neighborhoods in the central area of the city and also favelas in its outskirts. The shows drew on different genres from the repertoire of Brazilian popular theatre. All of them were conceived and devised by the company. Some, including Nosferatu, the Shadow’s Vampire, The Misfortunes of a Child, Doctor Fracassa’s Ragtag Theatre Troupe, and Mother’s Tears, were freely inspired by existing works of theatre and cinema, while The Passion of Jesus Christ According to Saint Rubinho was devised from scratch.
